Please remember to submit your RESEARCH assignment tomorrow!!
Please copy this short note.
Becoming an Adult in the 21st Century
The current trends show that the transition from childhood to adulthood is becoming an extended period of adolescence. Young adults are remaining emotionally and financially dependent on their parents until their late twenties. (later in some cases!)
Researchers Allahar and Cote state that society should provide 2 things:
1. a set of consistent beliefs about the behaviours of adults
2. opportunities for young people to participate in clear adult roles.
In groups of 3: ORALLY answer the following: You will be sharing your responses with the group AND you will need to know RESPONSES to these questions for an upcoming test on Friday, October 4th. I will review over what will be covered on the test on Monday, September 30th.
1). What are the roles that are taken on by adults? Is the belief about these roles consistent in North American society?
2. What challenges are presented to adolescents to achieve these roles?
3. What hypothesis might explain WHY the transition to adulthood is becoming delayed in the 21st century?
